This is my newest addition to my favorite websites. Wordle is a website that allows you to create images in any shape containing numerous words related to a specific topic. These images are called “word clouds”. These word clouds help to emphasize important words related to a topic. I like this website because it is easy to use and supports creativity. Another benefit is that it can be easily used with both typical students and student with special needs with little modification.

Enchanted Learning is a wonderful website that offers plethora of curriculum material for parents, teachers, and other professionals involved in different aspects of teaching. It also offers picture dictionary and activities for children ranging from kindergarten to 12th grade. Older children can use this website as a resource for research projects as well as activities. This site has a wide range of topics. Enchanted Learning has over 30,000 web pages organized in a friendly accessible fashion and is dedicated to enaging a learning is exciting and active ways. They also offer more resources if you subscribe for a membership.

Time for kids is an incredible website where real world news and information is provided in a format that is interesting and exciting for children from 4th grade to 12th grade. They have topics that range from national news, around the world, sports, entertainment all geared on what is of interests to kids in these age ranges. I really like this site because it also has an area for kid reporters to write and share their perspectives. The website also provides homework help, photos and videos of interviews with celebrities. Overall, it helps to bring important information about the world around them in a way that is enlightening and interesting.

These two math website are fabulous! Coolmath4kids is geared toward children ages 3 through 12. It has everything from basic counting, to addition, subtraction, multiplication, fractions to prealegbra. Coolmath.com is geared toward children ages 13 to adulthood. Once you graduate from coolmath4kids you can then advance to coolmath.com where you can continue to learn algebra, geometry, and pre-calculus to calculus. Both websites have an array of math lessons, practice, and games that make learning math easy and exciting. In fact, the creator of these sites developed a network of math sites that go far beyond basic math skills like finance and thinking skills. These are definitely a must see!

Learning science is another incredible website completely focused on All aspects of Science. This website was developed for teachers and students and is framed by the National Science Education Standards. They pride themselves on having the most up-to-date research in the science field as well as spent considerable time finding the best web resources to enhance the material and lesson information they provide on the site. I really like this site because it breaks down topics for each grade level in accordance with the national Science Standards making it easy to navigate and find the information desire.

Rubistar is a great website to learn how to create your own quality rubics. This site is primarily to help teachers create assessment rubrics that can be tailored to most accurately assess your student’s performance on a given assignment. I found this to be very valuable as a new teacher. Great site for new and seasoned teachers!

TeAch-nology is another wonderful website for teachers. It incorporates thousands of lesson plans, printable worksheets, and rubics. It also provides information on developing worksheets, web quests as well as numerous teaching tips and teacher resources. As a new teacher, I left bursting with new ideas!

Starfall is a great website that focuses on reading development. It’s philosophy is to motivate children using imagination and enthusiasm as a basis for engaging children to learn to read. This site focuses on pre-reading that introduce phonics and phonemes, short story books for beginning readers, and more advanced stories to develop reading and comprehension. All areas have games and activities to actively engage a learner with the material being taught. I especially liked that some of the activities prompts the learner to develop their own books and stories where they can use their own photos to personalize their books.

Brainpop is an animated educational website for kids. It has a variety of free lesson plans, graphic organizers, webinars, and video tutorials for curriculum-based content. What I love about this site is the free online access to professional groups and forums that allows you to connect with the larger professional community. This itself is a great resource when you are looking for answers that are not available, you can ask an experienced professional from the field. A membership is required for access to other resources. There are many free educational games available
